Three Factors That Conspire To Make Laser Hair Removal Relatively Expensive

It is a well known fact that laser hair removal is relatively expensive (as seen against most other viable hair removal approaches). To be sure, most people venturing out looking for laser hair removal services are usually relieved to learn that the services are not as expensive as one may at first fear. But many also take note that the laser hair removal services are not cheap either – especially when one takes into consideration the fact that to keep unwanted hair away completely, one may have to keep on going for such treatments from time to time.

Now, there are at least three factors that conspire to make laser hair removal services relatively expensive:

  1. 1. The cost of laser hair removal equipment: laser hair removal equipment does not come cheap. In fact, after coming to learn what some of these machines cost, many people start developing the feeling that the laser hair removal services are, in fact, too lowly priced – whilst wondering how the service providers ever recoup their investment. You can get a pretty good idea on what is under discussion here when you take cognizance of the fact that in laser hair removal, it is highly concentrated beams of light that are used removing the hair. Clearly then, the laser hair removal equipment needs to be equipment that can produce such light, and equipment that can concentrate it into the laser beams, and equipment which can accurately ‘focus’ those lasers… That is cutting-edge physics, and to benefit from it, you have to pay a proper price. It doesn’t help matters that in most countries, such laser hair removal equipment is usually imported (meaning that there is a heavy tax component in the price).
  2. 2. The fact that laser hair removal calls for highly qualified personnel: every where laser hair removal is carried out, you will tend to find very strict standards on who can operate the machines and so on. If laser hair removal is improperly handled, it can lead to some nasty problems (burns, scars and all that), hence the need to ensure that it is carried out by highly qualified professionals. But such highly qualified professionals charge a premium for their services , in a bid to get themselves compensated for all those years spent in study (and also knowing that they are few of them, and can as such form a cartel-like market structure)
  3. 3. The fact that demand for laser hair removal services outstrips supply capacity: when demand for a product (in this case a service) outstrips supply capacity, the suppliers may opt to do certain things. In the first instance, they may opt to attempt and increase capacity. But due to the previously explored constraints, this option of increasing capacity is not always open. It is at that point that the service providers may be forced to practice what is known as ‘price discrimination.’ Rather than giving laser hair removal services to one person and denying another person arbitrary (which would seem too discriminatory and potentially ugly), what the owners of the available laser hair removal services provision capacity do is to price the services highly. The objective there would be to see to it that only those who can pay for the laser hair removal services actually get them, in line with the principles of price discrimination.

The author feels that laser hair removal is the most ideal solution for a permanent cure as compared to other hair removal methods.
